having spent seven years in his adopted home of london steadily crafting a hazy, ambiguous identity that fuses ambient onto drone and techno, tom hang (aka lobster theremin boss jimmy asquith) finally steps up to the plate with “to be held in a non position” - a melded one-take lp that explores extended themes of isolation, loneliness, personal loss, disconnection and reconnection with reality and (self)-identity.
through his long-lost label tidy bedroom - on which “to be held in a non position” will be released - tom hang engages in a more introspective path, exploring sonic territories that find an echo with dislocated past experiences, pushing physical and psychic boundaries to get at the crux of intimacy.

i made music together with lee for years (alongside mick rolfe) as last waltz. he also worked as lizards with james hadfield (james released solo for me me me 02), oli worriner, is a talented young northerner who’s already making a great name for his solo output, both under his own name and his traela alias, as well his label “tunnyl recordings”.
i’m really flattered that they’ve let me release their first full solo release, and i love how they’ve brought out each others deeper and more emotive sides in these 2 tracks. shit robot is a hero of mine. i basically wore out the grooves on a bunch of his dfa stuff from just over 10 years ago, and i’ve avidly bought everything he’s released since. i met him this summer for the first time when we shared the bill at a festival, and was so happy to find that he’s also lovely guy in real life. they say you should never meet your heroes, but i don’t subscribe to that as this meeting led to not one, but two fantastic remixes for me me me 08. the originals are a bright mix of melodically analogue left leaning house, while the remixes zero-in on a punchier dancefloor vibe, with an epic version goodnight, as well a more heads down disco dub.
so yeah, links within links, and keeping it northeastern again i guess.

kalita are busy adding more weight to their on-point reissue catalogue with this excellent single from caribbean funksters iwabo. reggae down does indeed feature a skank of sorts and all manner of sunkissed vibes, but there s a greater emphasis on laid back funk than you would find in typical jamaican output. smile on your face is a more light hearted track that equally draws on a variety of reference points to impart its infectious positive message. iwabo may have been a secret weapon of serious diggers for years, but now it s time for the wider record buying public to get in on the groove.

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

after his joint ep with sascha sibler and his fabulous contribution for the ten years anniversary compilation of the label, daniel bortz returns to permanent vacation with his first solo ep since the infamous bella avgvsta trilogy. four tracks that are hard to pigeonhole and show the great variety of daniel bortzs production skills: you will find euphoric techno, hard hitting dub, cinematic breakbeats and heart warming electronica, all dancing harmonically in a giant echo chamber.

having crept out of the tape undergrowth and respected haunts like clan destine and always human to earn more civilized recognition on bank records nyc and bliq, strahinja arbutina makes the move to vivod for yet more of that edgy, leftfield techno business that keeps mothers awake at night from worry. the grit, noise and distortion has been faithfully carried through from the cassette-based roots of arbutinas sound, but these tracks are more than ready to do the damage in the dance (where you re less likely to find a tape deck). hold on tight as the likes of way ahead give the sound engineer a fright when they think the system has overloaded.

maraton is a brand new label coming out of stockholm, sweden. the first release includes two original works by per hammar and maraton co-owner edvin wikner, produced in valvet studios in malmö during the winter of 2016. on the b-side you’ll find an interpretation by the magnificent ion ludwig.

for those unfamiliar with the atipic releases, it may seem that buenos aires’ jorge savoretti has chosen to swim upstream on the latest atipic installment. as for a trained ear, the apparently bipolar approach, elegantly touching quite a few electronic influences from different decades, has a cohesive unity in all the 3 tracks presented. hidden under the sharp cut filters from the happy side a tune or building the groove to be unleashed in full swing on side b, it is up to the dancefloor characters to find these elements. rather unconventional, yet totally subjective, atipic004 is a proof of concept on how different angles can generate twisted and unexpected perspectives on modern electronic music.

at night, things get a lot more unpredictable. a stranger can become a friend, you suddenly become intimate with a woman or a man whos name you will never find out, while darkness also allows you to conceal your true identity - even become someone else. inspiration for this album emanates from the fascination towards the intensity of what nightlife has to offer , euphoria and melancholy, spotlights or incognito, sexual contact or lonely voyeurism... francois x entertains the listener with playful ambiguity and unsettling, yet sensual atmospheres.

remastered edition, contains a printed inner sleeve and 4-page 12inch booklet with liner notes and photos. tip! after a classic artistic journey and an experimental stint with aktuala and other brilliant fellow musicians (like franco battiato, above all), lino capra vaccina, near the end of the 70s, recorded antico adagio. it was an amazing album, anticipating countless future experiments in the field of new age and world music but also in avantgarde and electronic music. apart from a few violin parts and the extraordinary vocal lines (sung by vaccina himself and juri camisasca), antico adagio is an album fully built on percussions. but, at the same time, it s the farthest thing from the typical idea of percussions. you won t find a single trace of african or primitive beats: instead, this is a collection of rather long, subtle and thoughtful compositions, crafted with vibraphones, marimbas and gong. together they create a work which will remain unique both in capra vaccina s discography as well as in a more general sense.

nice price deal !!! the swedish producer duo gaspard de la vega & jenius makes their debut on perplex recordings with the >beauty on water< ep. they started making music together in 1997 and their sound is inspired by dub, soul and disco. in 2009 they founded the label ourvision on which, among the rest, also the perplex artist gegenheimer publishes. in 2002 jenius has moved to barcelona to find new inspiration for his musical evolvement. since than, they play weekly in clubs in barcelona, berlin …

mit -more to say versions- erscheint die dub-version von -nothing more to say-, dem debüt der reggae-band the frightnrs aus queens, das nach seinem erscheinen 2016 mit kritikerlob überschüttet wurde. jeder song wurde vom prodzuenten victor axelrod liebevoll auseinandergenommen und neu gedacht. das ergebnis ist ein muss für fans von the frightnrs und von soulvoller musik generell. es geschieht selten, dass ein debütalbum – vor allem in einem polarisierenden genre wie reggae – von allen seiten mit so viel applaus begrüßt wird wie 2016 -nothing more to say- von the frightnrs. vielleicht liegt es einfach daran, dass dieses album genre-grenzen konsequent ignoriert und in keine schublade passt. es ist im wahrsten sinne des wortes ein großartiges album.
